Dear Monday, I really need another day to prepare for you. Could you come back tomorrow and let's try this again? Mmkay? Thanks! xo, TL Wouldn't it be awesome if I could really do that? Just add in 24 hours between Sunday and Monday? Because, seriously, I really need a day to recover from the chaos of Sunday before the totally different but just as chaotic day we call Monday. Don't you? I'm sitting here in my office/study right now. I've had my quiet time this morning ... ... [Read More]
Are You Too Busy?
As I have been writing and preparing to speak this weekend, I've been re-reading several of my favorite books on rest and priorities. I think my all-time favorite book on the topic of rest and Sabbath is The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath by Mark Buchanan. I've underlined and highlighted and dog-eared a large portion of the book. One of my favorite chapters is the one on busyness. Well, maybe favorite isn't the best word. It's a great chapter but it hurts me to ... [Read More]
5 Ways to Shine Bright this Christmas
It's here ... the final countdown. Christmas is just five days away. It's easy to spend these last few days wrapped up in the execution of the plans we've been making for the past few weeks. And while there is nothing wrong with perfect Christmas meals, beautifully wrapped packages, and festive get-togethers, maybe you want something a little more for this year. Maybe you're an Advent failure whose calendar is still on December 8th. (I can relate.) Maybe you forgot to get an angel off ... [Read More]
Where Did Baby Jesus Go? Or A Review of Let. It. Go. by Karen Ehman
As much as I like to think my years on Paxil have eliminated all the control freak tendencies inside my little type A head and heart, I suppose I'd be lying to myself and everyone else if I didn't 'fess up to the conviction I felt when I started reading Karen Ehman's latest book, Let. It. Go.: How to Stop Running the Show and Start Walking in Faith. Seriously, when Amy asked me to join the blog tour team, I really did think, "Okay, but I am so not that girl anymore. I don't worry about things ... [Read More]
Voice Five Minute Friday LIVE from Allume
I'm live at Allume!! We're doing Five Minute Friday live ... Five minutes. Go. ***** Tonight my daughter sang with her show choir. I missed it. The first time I've ever missed a performance she's been a part of. I know she was fine. But I'm not so sure I am. I know I would not have heard her voice among the other 100 voices on stage. But, the simple thing is, I wasn't there to try. She's fine. I know she is. She's ever so much more confident and self-assured than I was at her age. {Who am I ... [Read More]
Parenting from the OverflowAvailable Now!
I spent this weekend in Oklahoma. My Pepa is 91 and is nearing the end of his days on earth. It was a gift for me to be able to go and spend some time with him over the past few days. Most of my favorite childhood memories involve time spent with Pepa. We've always had a very special relationship and watching him now, frail and dealing with dementia, is difficult. I tell you that because I had all sorts of big plans for the release of Parenting from the Overflow today. I wanted to do a ... [Read More]
