So one of my favorite parts of this writing/blogging thing is the opportunity to review books. It's a great gig — publishers send you free books and you get to tell the world what you think. A few months ago, I requested a book I'd been wanting to read, Why Her? 6 Truths We Need to Hear When Measuring Up Leaves Us Falling Behind. The book arrived from the lovely folks at B&H Publishing a few days later and I anxiously opened it up to start reading. I made it to page twelve before I ... [Read More]
{Book Review} Reading People by Anne Bogel
I'm a personality test junkie. Seriously. All of them. I mean, ALL of them. Like even the "Which Disney Princess Are You?" kind on Buzz Feed. {Book Review} Reading People by Anne Bogel Since I have such a powerful affection for all things personality, I couldn't help but get Anne Bogel's new book, Reading People: How Seeing the World through the Lens of Personality Changes Everything. If you don't know Anne, she is the genius behind Modern Mrs. Darcy and the host of the What ... [Read More]
{Book Review} Listen Love Repeat by Karen Ehman
Have you ever read a couple of lines in a book and had to stop because the words resonated so deeply within you that you needed time to stop and allow them to sink in and soak in and expand. Four years ago, I read a book by Karen Ehman titled Let. It. Go. It rocked my world. Seriously. Two years ago, I was honored to endorse her next book, Keep. It. Shut. Another awesome book. But her latest, Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World, is even better. By the time ... [Read More]
{Book Review} 66 Ways God Loves You by Jennifer Rothschild
This week has been hard in so many ways. Our beloved Mamaw Underwood is slowing fading from this earth. And we are thankful for the almost 92 years she has lived and the way she has loved her family so well. But we are keenly aware that her days here are few and soon she will be healed and whole in the presence of the Lord. Tuesday I was able to help her hospice nurse give her a bath. As we gently lifted her tiny arms and legs and washed her hair, I thought about what a holy thing we were ... [Read More]
Have You Ever Felt Fresh Out of Amazing?
I remember the first time I read Stacey's confession ... her words painted a picture of exactly how I felt! Lord, I feel like I need to be amazing. The trouble is, I'm fresh out of amazing. Honestly, it rings as true today as it did almost five years ago. Monday, I sent an email to the Prayers for Girls subscribers. This was the first paragraph: I wanted to start this email all peppy and enthusiastic but the truth is, I am exhausted. Not just physically tired ... but in every way drained. ... [Read More]
My New Journaling Bible || HCSB Illustrator’s Notetaking Bible
So, I have a new journaling Bible. Yes, this makes three. Whatev. :) I use my journaling Bibles in different ways and I have loved experimenting with techniques and tools. I love the way I can slow down and meditate on a passage or idea or even a word as I create on the pages of my Bible. It has become a very important part of my time in the Word. And I've also loved the challenge of learning new ways to illustrate what God is showing me. I am a pretty good hand letterer ... but, y'all, I ... [Read More]
