This is the first post in a new feature here on Fresh Perspective ... All Things Book-ish. I'll be sharing reviews and recommendations of books I've read as well as offering my "ruminations" about what I'm reading, how I choose books, etc. This will *hopefully* be a weekly(ish!) feature. "Will I—could I—be willing to stop playing my faith so safe, asking only for what seems possible, and exchange that for a faith that is willing to risk everything on the name of Jesus?" from Seriously God? ... Speak from Your Heart
I've been thinking lately about the power of words. (I suppose writing three books in six months can cause one to do that!) Words are powerful. Scripture says, "The lips of the godly speak helpful words but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words" (Proverbs 10:32). Jesus said it this way, "A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say" (Luke 6:45 NLT, emphasis ... [Read More]
Just Vote Christian? My Thoughts on Effective Citizen-Leaders
I'm going to be honest here. It's less than two months until the election and I'm a political junkie. I love all the hype and the debate and I could argue almost any side of any issue almost all day long. (I was a debater in college, y'all. We never outgrow the willingness to participate in a good "discussion," no matter how heated it can become.) I'm expecting a lot of heated dialog this year, probably more so than in the past election—which had more than its fair share of crazy dialog. ... [Read More]
Fresh Perspective
About 13 years ago, I joined a lovely community of women on iVillage. The group was called Speak Your Mind and we engaged in all sorts of conversation and healthy debate on topics from politics to parenting. That was my first real introduction to the type of relationships that could be forged online. The lovely ladies in that group made a scrapbook for my girl when she was born filled with all the words of encouragement and prayers and best wishes they had sent on that cold February day in ... Psst, I Write to You
I'm getting a makeover around here ... it's coming soon (like next week! Squee!!). I've got a great designer who is also an amazing boss and fantabulous friend (and co-author). She's helped me sort through some big changes I've been wanting to make for quite awhile. So, while all the details of fonts and plug-ins are being finalized, I thought I'd share about who I'm writing to when I sit down on my couch to peck away on the keyboard of my 13" inch MacBook Pro (which, by the way, I'm still ... Because Really, You Can’t Do It All!Work Shift by Anne Bogel
I have a longstanding issue with the word balance. A couple of years ago I wrote several posts on the topic of Lopsided Living encapsulating my ideas on purposefully pursuing an unbalanced life. I've questioned the biblical veracity of this modern notion of balance and the practicality of attempting to live it out. In both cases I've come up with the same answer ... it's no good. Work Shift by Anne Bogel, writer of Modern Mrs. Darcy, beautifully explains another view of this same "balance ... [Read More]
