Ruth, Eve, Esther, Mary, Martha, the other Mary, and that other Mary … how many women in Scripture can you name? And, even more importantly, how much do you know about the women in the BIble?
Sadly, most of us don’t know very much. Which is strange considering both men and women are made in the image of God, both men and women are clearly used by God for His good purposes in Scripture, and both men and women are vital to God’s mission of sharing the gospel.
Rather than dig into all the reasons why we don’t know much about the women of the Bible, I’d rather spend October introducing you to some of these faith-filled and faithful women. Some of them you may have heard of but, it’s possible, there’s at least one or two you don’t recognize.
We’ll look at each of these women, 10 from the Old Testament and 10 from the New Testament, and discover who they were, how they were used by the Lord, and what we can learn from them as we seek to grow in our faith.
My hope is that you’ll be encouraged and inspired to spend more time exploring the women in Scripture and discovering the magnitude of lessons we can learn from them.
By the way, this series isn’t just for women. In fact, if I’m honest, it’s probably more for men. Because the truth is, most women have been through some sort of study of women in Scripture … bust most men have not. So, this one is for all of us — men and women — to learn together and to learn from each other. {More on this in tomorrow’s post — 3 Reasons Men Should Study Biblical Women.}
Here’s what you can expect in each post:
- A short devotional thought based on the woman’s story
- A specific lesson we can learn from her
- Recommended Scripture to read about her
- Prayer prompt based on her faith
I am excited to kick this series off! And I hope you will plan to join me every weekday as we discover 20 women in Scripture you need to know.
I’ll be indexing each of the posts in this series here so you can bookmark this page and come back to it if you get behind. 🙂
