For You, O Lord, are my hope; my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
Psalm 71:5
Scott and I have been married almost 19 years. Like most married couples, we have faced difficult times. Some of the hardest situations have included:
- Three years of infertility.
- His father passing away unexpectedly.
- Scott’s diagnosis of ITP which involved many hospitalizations, brain hemorraghes, and several days on life support.
- Watching helplessly as the marriages of several couples we were close to fell apart due to infidelity.
- My struggles with depression and insecurity.
- My heart attack and its effects in several areas of my life
Life is hard. Marriage is hard. And there are times when we feel helpless, hopeless, and we just want to give up.
But when it’s hard, I’ve learned to cling to the promises of Scripture — the assurance we have in God’s Word of His love and His presence and His ability to bring good from all things {even the hardest moments}.
Maybe today you are struggling in your marriage. Maybe you’ve had a series of difficult situations and you’re wondering if it’s worth it to keep going. Maybe you’re ready to give up.
Read this verse again … aloud.
For You, O Lord, are my hope; my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
No matter what the situation is in your marriage … or in your life … we have hope in Him. We can trust Him. He is faithful.
Lord, You alone are our hope! Train our hearts to trust in You and to lead our children and others in our lives to do the same. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
